Dyslexia goes undetected and unnoticed in many cases. The main reason behind this is that many parens are not aware of this problem. Categorised as a learning disorder, Dyslexia hinders the child's ability to read and write. However, this does not mean your child is dumb; rather it indicates a problem that needs parents's attention and moreover can be tackled. Overcoming dyslexia is a challenge indeed, but it can be overcome. The most difficult aspect of it however remains identifying dyslexia in your kid.
COMMON SYMPTOMS:
Children suffering from dyslexia will have problems in identifying letters and numbers.
After reading a word on a page, there are chances they might not recognise it on another page.
They get tired or strained after reading, even though they had been reading only for a short time.
Omittance of letters from words is yet another common symptom found in dyslexic students.
Those suffering from dyslexia also get directions wrong. Confusion between similar letters (in structure) such as b and d, n and u, m and w are very common.
Dyslexics cannot easily pronounce vowel sounds.
If your child has a poor, ilegible handwriting despite your many attempts to improve their penmanship, then that could also be a sign of dyslexia.
Directions are a major challenge with dyslexics. They are left-right confused and also cannot recongise up from down. This is the reason behind why mix up various letters.
Children with dyslexia are also unable to tie their shoelaces or even button their shirts.
A child with dyslexia is normalyl considered dumb or slow. But this is not the case. Intelligence and talent has nothing to do with dyslexia. Many talented and accomplised people have suffred from dyslexia, like Mark Twain, Thomas Edison and even Albert Einstein.
So if your child suffers from these symptoms then please don't discourage them by thinking that they are slor or dumb rather try to go behind the cause of this problem becuase it can be overcomed and your child's life can be bettered.
